Celebrating the Life of Our Cherished Mother, Grammy & Best Friend - A Legacy of Love
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of our Mother, Grammy and Best Friend, Theo W. Cockroft, who left us peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the age of 94. She was the matriarch of our family, known for her unwavering kindness, her strength, and her boundless love for those around her.
Born in Paonia, Colorado, Theo spent her life creating a home and cabin filled with warmth, laughter, and lasting memories. Whether she was telling stories, boating in Lake Powell, or lighting up the room with her beautiful smile and impeccable fashion, she moved through the world with grace that touched everyone she met. Theo tenderly cared for her beloved late husband of 67 years, Bobby J. Cockroft, and devoted her life to raising, modeling, and providing for her three daughters: Joyce Cockroft, Deb Cockroft (Anne), and Lisa Bryce.
Theo's influence extended deeply into the next generations of her family. She was a presence in the lives of her four grandchildren—Jaime, Jenni (Victor), Victoria, and Cody (Ashley)—as well as her seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom continue to carry her spirit forward. As the cornerstone of every family gathering, she leaves behind a void that can only be bridged by the memories of her time with us.
In addition to her commitment as a homemaker and rancher's wife—a role in which she frequently hosted and provided for fellow ranchers and special friends—Theo balanced her family life with a professional career. She spent 27 years as a committed employee in the Delta County Accounting Department, eventually retiring in 1996.
In addition, she was a dedicated member of her community, and was active in her women’s Community Club, and the Delta United Methodist Church, where she spent many years teaching Sunday School and fostering lifelong friendships.
We cordially invite family and friends to join us as we honor her journey and celebrate the incredible woman she was. This will be a combination celebration to honor the lives of Theo and her beloved grandson, Cody Bryce who passed away 11/25/25. All are welcome to an open house at the Cockroft Family Cabin, 22989 Surface Creek Road, Cedaredge, CO, on May 30th, 2026, from 2pm-6pm.
In addition to her husband and grandson, Theo is also preceded in death by her adored brother, Neil Schlangen, and his wife, Sharon Schlangen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Cody’s name to HopeWest Hospice or in Theo’s name to the Delta United Methodist Church.
Theo’s love, generosity, and spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
