Samuel Roy Norvell

Samuel Roy Norvell passed away on February 21, 2024, at the age of 85 at Valley Manor in Montrose, Colorado.  He was born on December 20, 1938, in Delta, Colorado, where he spent his childhood and much of his life.

Sam was a hardworking and humorous man, known for his quick wit and dedication to his family.  He had a strong work ethic and always made sure to provide for his loved ones, even hand delivering Valentine's to his great grandchildren this year.  Sam had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs, and was a loving companion to his latest furry friend, Skeeter, who now resides with his daughter Sammie's pack.

In his military career, Sam served in the Navy, once sharing a story of holding an enemy submarine below radar with their Navy submarine on top of it.  Sam later enlisted in the Army Reserves, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country.  Also learning of his great grandson joining the US Marine Corp made him the proudest papa around, telling all that would listen.

Throughout his professional life, Sam managed the Holiday Inn in Kayenta, Arizona, where he had the privilege of meeting the cast and crew of "Back to the Future Part lll," including actors like Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox.  He also managed the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in multiple locations throughout the neighboring states and Colorado.  He also dedicated years of service to the City of Delta Parks Department before retiring.

Sam is survived by his sister, Sydney Wagner, his children Kathy Caples, Steve Gore, and Sammie Petrozzi, as was as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira & Eva Norvell, his wife Veta Norvell, his brothers Thomas (Dick) Norvell, David Norvell, Johnny Norvell, and his sister Martha Morrison.

A Graveside Service to honor Sam's life is planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Mesa View Cemetery off 1725 Road in Delta, Colorado.  Taylor Funeral Service is assisting the family with the arrangements

Sam will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his sense of humor, and his unwavering commitment to hard work.  He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be cherished by all who knew him.
