Roger John McCamey

Roger John McCamey, a lifelong resident of Boyers, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2026. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just two weeks before his passing, leaving far too little time—but perhaps just enough for those who loved him to hold him a little closer.

Roger was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1955, to the late William “Joe” and Wilda Campbell McCamey. He graduated from Moniteau High School in the early 1970’s and, in true Roger fashion, wasted no time getting to work and getting into a little trouble along the way. In his younger years, Roger and his brother, Forrest, were known to raise a little hell together, creating the kind of memories that only brothers can make. He also developed a lifelong love of motorcycles, especially his Harley—a machine that suited him perfectly.

After high school, as many folks in the area did, Roger began working at Pullman Standard. He worked in various positions depending on the need within the mill. His career with Butler County began in the late 1980’s, joking that he started out by “pushing a mop.” But Roger was never one to stay in one place for long. His unwavering work ethic, determination, and good old-fashioned grit carried him through the ranks, eventually leading him to supervise a crew in the Road and Bridge Department, where he remained for many years before retiring in 2019.

Roger met Christy Wells of Shaler Township, and his life took a new direction. Christy quickly became his soulmate, best friend, and partner in everything that followed. The two were married on July 27, 1990, in Boyers, Pennsylvania. Roger and Chris became the proud parents of three daughters, Sarah, Emily, and Molly. Being a dad was one of the roles Roger cherished most. He was the kind of father who could fix things, teach things, lend a hand—or simply show up when his girls needed him. No matter what life brought their family, Roger was there.

He enjoyed the simple things life had to offer. He could often be found tinkering in his shop or spending time with his buddies over a cold Busch Beer. He enjoyed hunting, “junkin” and buggy riding the mountains of Colorado. He had a stubborn streak that could be both legendary and endearing, and a personality that made him hard to forget.

In 2022, Roger and Chris purchased a small home in Cedaredge, Colorado, giving them a place to stay while spending time with their daughter, Molly. Before long, their little Colorado home became another chapter of their lives, and Roger and Chris began splitting their time between Boyers and Cedaredge. After Chris lost her battle with lung cancer in 2023, Roger continued splitting his time between homes. During his time in Cedaredge, he built a community of friends who quickly came to love him. Somewhere along the way, he earned the nickname “Pops.” It stuck—and, in fact, it stuck so well that there is a good chance some of his Colorado friends never knew his real name.

Roger will be deeply missed by his daughters, Sarah McCamey of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; Emily (Carl) Klecha of Clarion, Pennsylvania and Molly McCamey of Cedaredge, Colorado; his sister, Jane McCamey of Grove City, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog “Snick” and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Chris, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Roger “Dodger” McCamey, Jr., and his brother, Forrest McCamey.

A Life Celebration honoring Roger will be held in Cedaredge. An additional Celebration is being planned for his family and friends in Pennsylvania, with details to be announced.
