Richard Eugene Barker, 68, of Delta, Colorado, passed away on June 24, 2026, following a brief illness.
Richard was born on September 17, 1957, in Price, Utah, to Walter and Barbara (Sumner) Barker. In the early 1970s, his family made Delta their home, where Richard would spend the rest of his life. He graduated from Delta High School, where he was active in both football and wrestling, developing the determination and work ethic that would define him throughout his life.
Following high school, Richard began what would become his lifelong career with Heinz Glass and B&B Glass in Delta. For decades, he dedicated himself to the company, earning the respect of coworkers and customers alike through his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet commitment to doing the job right.
As a young man, Richard enjoyed the excitement of motocross racing, but his greatest passion was the outdoors. Whether he was fishing a favorite stream, hunting big game in the Colorado mountains, or walking fields behind his beloved Labrador retrievers in search of pheasants, Richard felt most at home in nature. Each year, he eagerly anticipated his annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota, a tradition that brought him great joy and lasting friendships.
Richard also enjoyed spending time with friends through league bowling and as a member of a competitive shooting team. Whether on the lanes, at the range, or in the outdoors, he appreciated the camaraderie, friendly competition, and the opportunity to share his passions with others.
Perhaps nothing brought Richard greater happiness than his black Labrador retrievers. They were his constant companions, faithful hunting partners, and members of the family. Throughout his life, there was almost always at least one Lab by his side, sharing in his adventures and offering unwavering companionship.
Richard is survived by his mother, Barbara (Sumner) Barker of Delta; his brothers, Randy (Debbie) Barker of Longmont, CO and Robert (Jayne) Barker of Lakeland, FL; his aunt, Twilah Brew of Delta and uncle, Lawrence Sumner of Mesa, AZ, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Barker, and his grandparents.
Richard will be remembered as a hardworking, loyal, and humble man who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—a sunrise in the mountains, a day on the water, a successful hunt, and the companionship of a good dog. His quiet presence, generous spirit, and love of the outdoors will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to spend time outdoors in Richard’s memory. Take a walk, cast a fishing line, enjoy a hunt, or simply share an adventure with a faithful dog—just as Richard would have wanted.
