Patricia Lee Smith was born March 30, 1945 in Craig Colorado. Surrounded by her beloved family, Patsy passed away on Monday October 27, 2025 at 80 years young.
Mom/ Gigi never wanted a traditional funeral; she did not want people standing around crying. Instead, she wanted a celebration of life. A viewing will be held on November 6, 2025 and November 7, 2025 at 3:30 – 5:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Home for those who wish to attend. Her celebration of life will be held on March 30, 2026 on Grand Mesa, further details will be communicated at a later time.
Patsy was born to Harvey and Bessie Smith and was the eldest of six children. Growing up, the other kids considered Patsy to be their “Rock”. When they needed advice, a couch to sleep on or just some quality time, she was always there.
Except for a few years, Patsy lived her life in Delta. Her career path and skills consisted of a fulltime caregiver, a household organizer, farmer, chef, and councilor and with five kids, 15 grand kids, 28 great grand kids and 10 great, great grand kids; it is only fitting to add crisis manager. Mom/Gigi wasn’t just a homemaker; she was the glue that held or family together. She did not know a stranger, her home was open to all and with each person, our family grew. We always had an aunt, uncle, cousin and sometime even a grandpa we were meeting for the first time.
Patsy married Charles Patterson, and to this, union four children were born. After 15 years, that union ended as a lifelong friendship. Patsy married Herb Koontz and to this union one child was born and Patsy became a stepmother to Tom, David, Laurie, Sherri, Dianne, Barbra, and Elizabeth. After Herbs death, Patsy married Ted Huffman, the love of her life.
Patsy and Ted lived a wonderful and fulfilling life, traveling to visit family, attending the never-ending birthday’s parties and every sporting event for every grand kid. They took every opportunity to go camping and fishing with family even though they knew there would most likely be endless shenanigans. One of the family’s favorite traditions was when they would host the annual decorating of the Christmas tree. All the grand kids, great and great, greats would gather to stack 25 years of accumulated decorations on an 8 ft tree, and then top it off with 10 lbs of stencil. As a child this was an amazing and magnificent sight, as adults, we were amazed the tree did not collapse or catch fire.
Patsy was survived by her loving husband, Ted Huffman. Her children, Brenda (Jim) Jackson, Frank (Taffine) Patterson, Linda (Zane) Wagler, Becky (Tex) Piele. Grand kids Christina(Paco) Manzanares, Warren (Ron) Thurston, Norman(Lizzy) Thurston, Joe(Christina)Taft, Ronnie(Flor) Patterson, Edward Patterson, Summer Shaw, Amanda Giron, Dylan(Alexis) Toothaker, Carlynn(Julian) Smith, Hunter Cockroft, Garrett Toothaker,Kahla(Carl) Keeney, Sabrina Chenoweth. 28 great grand children and 10 great, great grand children. She is also survived by her loving sisters, BJ Carter and Jo Rash. Her best friend and Brother Mike (Kathy) Smith.
Patsy is preceded in death by her youngest son Floyd Patterson, Mom; Bessie Herman, Dad; Harvey Smith, Sister; Sam Carter, Brother; Ricky Smith, and Nephew; Dustin Overturff.
Patsy was a good mom, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be deeply missed. Gone but not forgotten, the traditions she instilled and the memories will live on for generations
