Orma Jene McPhaul

Orma “Jene” Sanford McPhaul went home to the arms of our Lord November 27, 2025. She passed peacefully at St.Mary’s hospital after a short illness with her daughters at her side. She was 95.

Jene was born June 1, 1930 right after her twin sister Norma June in Pueblo, CO to Berly Stubblefield and Charles S. Sanford. Attended Excelsior District 2 schools and graduated from Old Centennial High School Pueblo in June of 1948. Lived her growing up years in Vineland,CO.

1946 at a PTA meeting she met James “Evander” McPhaul, they would marry June 30 1948. Started their 55 year marriage in Olney Springs, CO on a dry land farm. 1950 moved to Avondale, CO to farm. They were blessed with 5 children. Scharee, Terrie, Vonni, James and Charles. When Jene’s father retired they moved to the home place at Vineland where they built there first house with indoor plumbing. They continued to farm and ranch there. Through the years 4 of the children had moved to Fort Collins for college and life, 1979 the rest of the family followed to live in the Waverly area.

Always a homemaker she took her first out of the home job at Waverly elementary in 1980. When the school closed she went to Colorado State University in various positions until she retired. Evander passed in 2003. 2006 another change, daughter Terrie and her husband made a move to Cedaredge, CO and she moved to a townhome in Cedaredge. She was a prolific canner, an avid collector of music boxes and created wonderful needlework that she shared with so many. Jene was active in her church and a volunteer for their mission of sewing for love. She was active with Orchard City Women’s club. Anytime there was a challenge she would say “God’s got it” and go on knowing the Lord would sort it out. Besides she gave GREAT hugs. Whenever asked how she was the answer was always “I am blessed” and blessed she was indeed. Her sweet spirit and constant positive attitude blessed anyone who knew her.

Survived by one sister Jane (Ron) Whitten of Pueblo, daughters Scharee Atchison of Cedaredge, Terrie (Perry) Mittelstadt of Cedaredge, Vonni McPhaul of Kona, HI, James McPhaul (Kathleen). 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren numerous nieces, nephews, a multitude of special friends and GiGi her 12 pound companion.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters and 1 son.

A celebration of Jene’s Life is planned at a future date.
