Mary Manette Englehart

Celebration of life services for Mary M. Englehart will be held on Wednesday September 23, 2026 from 11:00am till 2:00pm at the Longhorn and Lace Venue located at 1759 1580 Rd. in Delta CO. A small graveside Columbarium Service will be held on Friday September 25, 2026 at 1:30pm at the First United Methodist Church in Cortez for friends of the family who may choose to attend. Mary Manette Englehart passed away on September 9, 2026 at Crossroads Assisted Living Facility in Delta, Colorado. She was born in Monahans, Texas on November 1, 1938 to Flora Manette (Chase) and Warren Keith Stegall. She was 87 years of age. Mary started her life, living in Texas, with her parents, sister Janet and brother Keith. She was the youngest of the three kids. At a young age her family moved to Gunnison, Colorado where she attended grade school and graduated from Gunnison High School. During her high school years developed her skills as a baton twirler and vocalist. She used her singing talents during her adult life singing in the choir at the First United Methodist Church in Cortez. She performed at numerous weddings and sang Christmas solos for many years at her church. She continued to baton twirl as she attended Western State College. It was at college in Gunnison where she met James Porter Englehart and they were married on June 7, 1958 then moved to Cortez where Jim had completed his first year of teaching. Jim and Mary had two children, Richard and Lynda and the first four summers of their marriage were spent back in Gunnison as her husband worked on and received his Masters Degree from Western State College. During her time in Cortez she raised a family and supported her husband Jim as he coached sports. She would keep score and stats for his baseball teams each year as the team played ball on the same field her husband and son played on years ago. Through the efforts of a close family friend, Dick Donahoo, the field is now named after her late husband Jim. The score booth still stands today that she once occupied with the sign over the top reading “ENGLEHART FIELD”. The majority of Mary’s career was as a secretary in the counseling office at Montezuma Cortez High School. She was also the cheer leading coach during her time spent at the school. She ended her career as a legal secretary for attorney Kelly McCabe, the job she most cherished. Mary was a member of Cortez chapter of PEO Chapter DD-Colorado, Cortez First United Methodist Church, and the Montezuma County Historical Society. Mary enjoyed playing golf and was involved with the Cortez Women’s Golf Association serving as president for a time. She had a passion for hosting and loved having her glass of wine with her evening meals. Mary loved watching her son and daughter play collegiate sports and traveled numerous miles watching her grandsons play both high school and collegiate sports as well. Her love of family and sports took her to Grand Junction where she moved closer to watch her great granddaughters participate. In June of 2022 Mary suffered a debilitating stroke. She moved to Delta in September of that year where she lived at Crossroads Assisted Living Facility. Over the past four years she was loved on and very well taken care by the staff and administration until her passing. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jim of 57 years; parents Warren and Manette; her brother Keith Stegall and sister Janet Wuske. She is survived by her loving family; son, Richard Englehart (Cristie); daughter, Lynda Englehart (Andrea Reed); grandsons, Richard James (RJ) Englehart (Rachel), and Curtis Englehart (Sara); and great-granddaughters, Lauren Kay, Elly Emma, Ava Kate and Addley Hope.
