Delta resident, Martha Mendez, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was 83.
A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta with Father Albeiro Herrera-Ciro, Father Williams and Deacon Price Hatcher. Burial will follow at Mesa View Cemetery.
Martha was born to Fransico Gonzalez and Maria de Santos Chavez in Zacatecas, Mexico. She spent her childhood in Mexico. In 1968, Martha moved to El Paso, Texas.
On October 12, 1994 Martha married Pilar R. Mendez in Delta, Colorado. The couple celebrated 50 years of love and 19 years of marriage before Pilar’s passing.
Martha was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir. She loved to volunteer for HopeWest Hospice. Martha enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, sewing, knitting, cooking and listening to music. She loved spending time with family and friends as much as possible, and in the evening, she would take her pets for walks and interact with neighbors.
Martha is survived by her children: son, Jose Manuel Gonzalez and wife, Maria de Jesus Gomez; son, Jorge Fransico Ceballos Gonzalez, all of El Paso, TX; son, Ricardo Mendez (deceased) of Longview, TX; son, Arthur Mendez and his wife, Angeles of Cedaredge, CO; step-son, Armando Mendez of El Paso, TX; daughter, Dora Elia Velasco Gonzalez of El Paso, TX; daughter, Silvia Chacon and husband, Hector, also of El Paso, TX; daughter, Maria D. Santiesteban and husband, Carlos of Sunland Park, NM; daughter, Nancy Mendez Garcia and husband Edward of Montrose, CO; step-daughter, Maria De Pilar Mendez of Stanta Theresa, NM; and Step-daughter, Ester Aguilera and husband Mario of Santa Theresa, NM; thirty grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; thirty-three great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Martha’s memory to HopeWest Hospice, P. O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416.
