November 9, 1931 — June 2, 2024

Clifton, Colorado

Marge (Margie) was 92 years old and passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in law, Vicki and Wayne Sallade’, in Clifton, Colorado following a prolonged decline in her health over the past 4 years.

Margie was born in Riverton, Wyoming to Velma (Hagins) French and Claude French, where she lived with her parents until her parents divorced when Margie was 3. Margie was raised by her grandparents George and Laura French, along with Claude on a sheep ranch, first outside of Riverton where Margie learned to ride a horse at the age of 4. In 1940, the family purchased the States Ranch in Sinks Canyon, just outside of Lander Wyoming, where Margie grew up helping on the ranch, and spent many summers in the Wind River Mountains camping, enjoying pack trips, and exploring while the sheep grazed in summer pastures. Margie attended Borner’s Garden School until 8th Grade and Graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1949. Following Graduation, Margie attended Parks School of Business in Denver, earning the equivalent of an associate degree in bookkeeping, which was her lifelong vocation. Margie worked as a bookkeeper for Surface Creek Creamery, Consumers Co-Op Gas and Oil in Delta, Bethesda Care Center in Delta, and San Juan Living Center in Montrose.

Margie was briefly married to Claude Hashburger in 1951, resulting in the birth of a son, Steven Bowen, who was adopted. Margie returned to Lander and married Eddie Walsted in 1952 and had a daughter, Vicki Lynne (Walsted) Sallade’ in 1954. They divorced in 1958, and Margie married Jack Quick in 1960 after relocating to Prescott, Arizona. After spending 2 years in Arizona, Jack, Margie, and Vicki moved to Eckert, Colorado in 1962, where Margie lived until shortly before her passing. Jack passed in 1998 following 37 years of happiness, which included many adventures on Grand Mesa and the San Juan Mountains camping, hunting, hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, rock hunting, horseback riding, and traveling. Margie met and married Richard Davis in 2002, and was again able to enjoy adventures of travel, visiting friends and family, and exploring new places. Richard passed away in 2009.

Margie enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and baking, reading, serving on several committees at Cedaredge Community Methodist Church where she taught 5th and 6th Grade Sunday School. Margie also volunteered for several organizations including the VFW Auxiliary, served as Treasurer of the Cedaredge Community Methodist Church for 36 years, volunteered at the Methodist Church Thrift Shop in Cedaredge for 25 years, volunteered at the Cedaredge Middle School Library, and the Senior Center in Cedaredge for over 20 years. Margie was the coordinator of the baking contest at Applefest in Cedaredge for over 20 years, and a long-term member of the Orchard City Women’s Club. She was also a long-time member of the Delta Business and Professional Women’s Club. One of her favorite sayings was “Not all who wander are lost.” She loved to travel with Jack, then again with Rich, as they explored new areas. Margie often kept a journal of their adventures. As much as Margie loved her various roles, her favorite role was that as Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Sister in Christ.

Margie is survived by her daughter Vicki (Wayne) Sallade’ of Clifton, Colorado, her stepdaughter Carol Swendseid (Lowell) of Cedaredge, stepdaughters Deb Nichols (Nick) and Char Baker (Steve) of Hutchinson, Kansas. Her Grandchildren include Chris Swendseid of Henderson, Nevada, Dru Ann Wagner (Kirt) of Billings, Montana, Ron, Rusty, and Roy Myers of Chandler, Arizona, Jeremy Stern of Georgetown, Texas, and 9 great-grandchildren. Margie is preceded in death by her parents Velma Shorten and Claude French, her stepmother Jessie French, her spouses Jack Quick and Rich Davis, her stepdaughter Connie Jo Myers, grandson Randy Myers, and grand-daughter Elizabeth Jo Domgaard. Margie recently reconnected with her birth son Steve Bowen and his wife Cynda; to discover she has an additional 6 Grandchildren and 15 great-Grandchildren.
