Lyla Lee Davis passed away at home in Grand Junction, Colorado on December 22, 2025. She was 81 years old. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on March 14, 2026, at Taylor Funeral Service, Delta, Colorado.
Lyla was born in Delta, Colorado on August 11, 1944, to Dorcas (Edson) Davis and Charles Lyle “Blackie” Davis. She spent her childhood in Delta and attended Delta schools until the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1963. She graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1964.
In 1980, Lyla and her mother moved back to Delta County, making their home on Redlands Mesa near her sister Helen Hawkins and husband Dan. They returned to Phoenix in 1998, then back to Delta County in 2007. After the death of her mother in 2009, Lyla made her home with Helen and Dan Hawkins in Delta County and Grand Junction.
Lyla never married. She was gregarious, loving the company of family members and friends. She loved playing board games and cards and was especially deadly at the game of Trivial Pursuit. She wrote many stories with fantastic plots often involving treasures of gold being won and lost while battling evil forces. She was a sharp-eyed collector of good glassware and would seldom pass up a yard sale.
Lyla is survived by her sister Helen (Dan) Hawkins of Grand Junction, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph Allen Davis, sister Dorothy Alice Hanley, and half-sister Leslie Rae Woods.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service.
