Lura Nadine Reschke was born to Randolph T. and Francis Nell Detwiler Kerfoot in Crescent, Oklahoma, on 10-20-30.
Lura always loved music and was fascinated with piano keys and making music from an early age. She was gifted a piano at age 10. She played piano and organ at church from the age of 13 to 95.
She and her siblings rode a horse to their 1-room schoolhouse for her early education. She was valedictorian of Crescent High School graduating class of 1949.
Lura married another musician, Joe David Reschke, in 1949. They moved to Denver in 1951. She was blessed with 6 children. The family moved to “the country” near Hotchkiss in 1963.
Lura’s music has blessed so many people in the community. She played the piano regularly for Kiwanis Club, senior citizens meetings, Delta County Hymn-Sung, Paonia Nursing Home, and dozens of other programs and events. She played the organ for the local mortuary and for church each Sunday. She received many commendations, including Hotchkiss Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year 1981.
Lura especially enjoyed making friends and helping others. She truly lived a life of service and hospitality to her family, friends, church family, and the community. She was always there to help anyone in need, especially seniors.
Lura loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and faithfully followed Him in love, service, and friendship.
She said recently, “Just celebrate my life—I’ve had a good one! The 6 have been the best!!! The Lord is so good!!!”
Lura is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Melvina Kerfoot and Violet Bishop; her 6 children: Louise (Barry) Beckley of Norwalk, CA, Linda McDaniel of Hotchkiss, Larry (Sharon) Reschke of Eckert, Lois Hines of Wamego, KS, Luke (Frankie) Reschke of Paonia, and Leabeth Quinn of Calgary, Canada.
