Lt. Col. Robert “Bob” Louis Felts, USAF (Ret.), passed away peacefully at his home in Colorado on July 31st, 2025, just hours before his 86th birthday.
Bob was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Martha Ruth Lynch and Clay Horton Felts, on August 1st, 1939. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1962 (the 4th graduating class at the Academy and the original Red Tags). He served more than 20 years in the Air Force, first as a KC-135 refueling pilot in Vietnam and later as one of the first FB-111A bomber pilots to place the aircraft on nuclear alert. Over his distinguished career, he served as a pilot, instructor, and squadron leader, retiring in 1982 as a Command Pilot.
Following his military career, Bob worked in avionics modernization, supported his wife’s consulting business, and pursued entrepreneurial ventures. He and his wife Peggy moved from Elk Grove, California to Delta, Colorado, in 2021. He will be remembered for his love of cars, dogs, sailing, southern cooking, and a good crime novel.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret "Peggy" Felts; sons David, Shane, and Jonathan Felts; daughter Julia Felts Loh; grandsons, Brendan Felts, Woodland Felts, Brody Felts and Evan Loh; granddaughter Devon Felts, and great-granddaughters Stella Riscile, Elowyn Fulmer, and Mazie Fulmer.
A private memorial with military honors will be held at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in June 2026.
