Loa “Jean” Anderson Barton passed away on Sunday, January 1st, 2023, at Paonia Care Center in Paonia, CO. She was 92 years old.
Jean was born on June 12th, 1930, to Ethel (Pearce) and Mack Anderson in Hutchinson, Kansas. She attended Rocky Ford High School in Colorado and Bethany College in Oklahoma. She obtained a Master of Arts degree from the Colorado College in 1967. Jean was a career schoolteacher focused on elementary education.
In 1952, Jean married the love of her life William E Barton in Raton, New Mexico. They celebrated 65 years together when he passed in 2017.
They made their way to the Paonia area from Colorado Springs in the early 1990’s, making the North Fork valley their permanent home ever since. Jean was a member of the Paonia United Methodist Church and the Lamborn Mesa Neighborly Neighbors. She enjoyed hiking, reading and philanthropy.
Jean is survived by her three children, William “Randy” Barton of Colorado Springs, David Barton of Paonia, and Mark Barton of Kilgore, Texas, as well as seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
