Larry Sebring

Larry Sebring stepped into glory on January 3, 2026. With his precious Judy at his side and surrounded by family, he whispered, “peace that passes all understanding” in the minutes before he left to meet his Lord and Saviour face to face.

Larry was born in Denver, Colorado on April 20, 1940, to Orval and Goldie Sebring. His early childhood was spent in timber camps and in the cabs of logging trucks. Larry’s family moved to Gunnison, Colorado for his sixth-grade year and in 1959 he graduated from Gunnison High School. He played football and wrestled throughout high school. Of football, he said, “I wasn’t a big guy, but I could run fast”. A serious car accident in 1959 delayed his enlistment in the United States Air Force. In 1960, Larry completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and proudly served from 1960-1964. He was trained as an aircraft mechanic on the C124 Cargo Plane and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base. His duties took him to Texas, Kansas, the Philippines, Hawaii and California. In September 1961, a dance hosted by Travis AFB, with invitation to students from Kaiser Foundation of Nursing, would be the beginning of a beautiful 63+ year love story with his dear Judy. Larry and Judy (Doesekle) married in Reno, Nevada in September 1962. After honorable discharge from the USAF, Larry and Judy moved to Gunnison where they started their family with the arrival of their daughter Julie. Their son David arrived 13 months later in Farmington, NM. Larry began his career with the Denver Post in Gunnison as a Distributor and then as a District Advisor for Southwestern Colorado. In the mid-70’s Larry and Judy went into the hamburger business, first with the Burger Baron and then building the Burgher Haus. Larry’s desire to travel for work less and be home more, took him to the Gunnison Country Times where he worked in circulation and then as General Manager, finishing his career in the newspaper business in 1987.

The highlight of Larry’s life took place on Easter Sunday morning, 1977 when he stepped out of darkness and into light, believing and trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. By faith, he became a part of the Body of Christ, a new creation. Larry and Judy served with Youth With a Mission and many different ministries over the years. He led, prayed and loved with his whole heart. Larry was grateful for everyday and he captured the year 2025 with the word “thankful”.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, his children, Julie (Gordon) and David, three grandchildren, Ryan (Katrina), Kylie (Phil) and Jeremy (Anna) and five treasured great grandchildren, Wilder, Ezra, Heidi, Elias and Dietrich. He is also survived by his brother, Walt (Judy), sister, Karen (Nathan) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Goldie and brothers, Clayton, Ted and Perry.

Funeral Honors will be held January 26, 2026, at 1 pm at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction. The family would like to express sincere thanks for the compassionate care provided by the ICU staff at Delta County Memorial Hospital and Hope West Hospice.
