Larick Frank Spencer, of Hotchkiss, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at Community Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, surrounded by family. Larry was 75 years old. Larry was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on December 4, 1950. Larry spent his early childhood in Aztec, New Mexico, and moved to Hotchkiss in 1963. Larry graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1969. Larry enjoyed many classmates his entire life. Larry proudly served his country in the Army from 1970 to 1974. Larry graduated from Mesa State College in 1978 with a Bachelor Degree in Environmental Geo-Science. Larry enjoyed a career as a geologist with the Department of Energy. He also enjoyed working part time at the Crawford State Park in later years as a Ranger.
Larry married Susan (Tate) Hamrick on December 12, 2012, (12-12-12 at 12:00), and then again in front of family and friends on June 25, 2016. They enjoyed 20 wonderful years together.
Larry was a charter member of the Red Feather Bowmen Archery Club. Larry was an AVID hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping in his AirStream trailer and riding his side-by-side. He will be remembered as a kind soul with a great sense of humor.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Donald Spencer. He leaves behind his wife, Susan Spencer, his sister Connie (Phil) Wilson of Blanco, New Mexico, his nephew Shane Hilbers (Niki) of Aztec, New Mexico and his nephew Lonnie Hilbers. He leaves behind his stepsons Derrick Hamrick, of Grand Junction, Colorado and Jason Hamrick (Ruthie), of Edwards, Colorado. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Nancy Rowley, of Paonia, Colorado; Carol Charter (Jeff), of Buena Vista, Colorado; and Julie (Brian), from Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, and his brother-in-law Larry Tate (Kelly,) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, as well as three step-grandchildren Lane, Hank and Daisy, and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude and love to the outstanding teams at Community Hospital: Dr. Glover and her oncology team and the ICU unit at Community Hospital.
The family suggest a memorial contribution to the Red Feather Bowmen in care of Treasurer, Duane Pinckard, 41044 Lamborn Drive, Paonia, CO 81428, or the Hotchkiss Alumni Association by taking to United Business Bank, Hotchkiss, Colorado, or mail to Hotchkiss Schools Alumni Fund, 311 Poplar Way, Hotchkiss, CO, 81419. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
