Kathleen Julia Wilcox

March 10, 1942 — September 21, 2025

Cedaredge Colorado

Kathleen J. Wilcox passed away September 21, 2025, in her home in Cedaredge, Colorado. She was 83 years old. Kathy did not want a formal funeral service.

Kathy Wilcox was born in Paonia, Colorado on March 10, 1942, to Carl and Ruby Smith. She grew up in Somerset but moved to Delta when she was in the fourth grade. Kathy graduated from Delta High School in 1960.

Kathy married Edwin Wilcox on November 27, 1960. Although their union ended in divorce, it resulted in 3 children who, in her words, were “blessings” that filled her days with great joy.

While raising her 3 children she worked in Delta. She enriched the lives of many through her chosen profession as a registered dietitian at Delta County Memorial Hospital, and then as the Manager of the Delta Middle School cafeteria where she “thoroughly enjoyed all the children.” After retiring in 2004, Kathy spent her later years in beautiful Cedaredge with her 20-year partner Dale Long. She enjoyed going for walks, square dancing, word searches, reading, fishing, feeding the marmots, and spending time with her family. She was a forever and devoted Elvis fan, made an amazing lemon meringue pie, and absolutely loved Christmas. Kathy approached life and every person she met with a positive spirit and attitude.

Kathy is survived by her partner Dale Long, daughter Lori (Jimmy) Timbreza of Delta, son Edwin (Javona) Wilcox of Grand Junction, daughter Kaye (Dan) Hotsenpiller of Montrose, sister Margaret (Ron) Bonine; grandchildren Waylon, Amber, Derek, Jacob, Micah, Jack, Nic, Alex and Grace; and great grandchildren Trevor, Bailey, JJ, Tristin, Elle, Damian, and Jasmine.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to: The Shelter Shoppe 110 SE Frontier Ave #D, Cedaredge, CO 81413
