Jo Anne Fogg

July 25, 1942 - September 4, 2025

Jo Anne Fogg, 83, passed away on September 4, 2025. She was born on July 25, 1942, in Sac City, Iowa, to Ernest Herman Assing and Alberta Sophia (Rogge) Assing, and she grew up in Webster City, Iowa.

At the age of 16, Joanne married Larry Schnell, and in 1960 they moved to Denver, where they raised two children, Vonna Ray and David Duane Schnell. They later divorced in 1970.

Joanne's first job was as a seasonal worker at Montgomery Ward. She later earned her GED and began working at Ainsworth Manufacturing as a machinist helper. In 1970 she started at Western Electric as a PBX frame wire shooter. Through the years, she steadily advanced—becoming a repair person, then an apprentice mechanic after the company became AT&T. When the plant later spun off as Lucent Technologies, Joanne was promoted to composite master machinist. She was the only woman among very few men at the Denver Works to rise from entry-level to the highest grade among union workers, a remarkable achievement that earned her deep respect.

In 1990, Joanne married Scott Fogg. In 2002, they retired to a home on Leroux Creek in western Colorado. She enjoyed camping with friends, cooking, cool summer evenings, warm winter days, and time with her beloved granddaughters, McKenna and Abigail. Though she had always been a city girl, Joanne came to love the quiet beauty of western Colorado, which became her true home.

Joanne will be remembered not only for her strength and perseverance but also for her kindness—she had a way of making others feel cared for and welcome, whether at work, around a campfire, or in her kitchen.

She is survived by her husband, Scott; her children, Vonna and David; Scott's children Breanna and Brandi; her granddaughters, McKenna and Abigail; her brother Dale; and many friends, nieces, nephews and colleagues who cherished her warmth and admired her accomplishments.
