Jimmy Elliot
Higgs
April 26, 1982 – May 15, 2026
Jimmy Elliot Higgs passed away on 5/15/2026 in Delta, Colorado. He was 44 years of age.
A family held Celebration of Life will take place in Hotchkiss, Colorado, on Sunday, May 24th, 2026. Jimmy was born on April 26th 1982. He grew up in Delta, Colorado, and graduated from Delta High School in 2000. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a Cavalry Scout. During his service, he deployed to Iraq and completed three separate tours. He climbed to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He flourished as a leader, as he loved taking care of his soldiers and preparing them for what they would endure as a team. Serving in the Army was the proudest period of his life. He received several awards in direct recognition of his unwavering dedication to his role as a soldier. After his military service, he returned to work as a Mechanic and moved to Alaska. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and off-roading. Gardening and being in Mother Nature were what brought him the most peace. Jimmy was a soldier first and continued to fight for soldiers and veterans to receive the care and assistance they deserved. He was quick to offer help to anyone who needed it. He will be remembered for his loving spirit, loud laughter, and big personality. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ida Hope Higgs, father, Jim Higgs, and brother, Leroy Higgs.
He was loved my many, and leaves behind brothers Victor and Jeremiah, and his nieces and nephews Kord, Shalea, Dusty, Hayden, Johnathan, Atlas, Krimson, Toby and Cheyenne.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a nonprofit organization that assists veterans.
Jimmy's long-term plan was to buy land and create a space where veterans could come to find relief and get back on their feet. He was going to do this through Equestrian Therapy, Gardening, and teaching Veterans to live off the land and find inner peace.
