Jimmie Dale Boyd passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was 78 years old.
Jimmie was born on December 13,1945 to J D and Alpha Boyd in Austin, Colorado. He spent his childhood in the Austin area and attended Fairview School until the 8th grade. He graduated from Delta High School in 1964. He then attended Colorado State University and graduated with a Forestry degree. He began working for the Soil Conservation office in Durango. He liked the Durango area and made that his home for a few years. He sold Farmers Union Insurance and later was co-owner of a parts store there before he returned to Austin and started a construction company with his Uncle Willard Demmer. They erected a lot of the onion sheds in the Delta and Montrose area along with several other metal buildings. He later went to work for the Division of Water Resources for 23 years until he retired.
He married the love of his life, Neoma Anderson on Aug 19, 1978 in Austin and became father to Ken 10 and Keith 5. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage until her death in 2022.
Jimmie enjoyed the outdoors all his life. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dad, brother, uncles and cousins when he was young and teaching his nephews how to hunt when they were old enough. He also introduced them to the game of golf which they enjoyed together. He enjoyed ATVing and wildlife viewing when he was spending time at the property on 25 Mesa and made many friends and acquaintances over the years while exploring 25. He has spent the last 10 years enjoying watching his Great Nephew Derek play baseball with the Delta teams. He loved going to the jeep rock crawling rallies in Moab with Nome, her sister Virginis and brother in-law Owen. The four of them also enjoyed a long extended vacation to Alaska and several National Parks when they retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Jimmie is survived by his sons: Ken of Silverton and Keith and wife Mendy of Austin. Brother Lyndon and wife Jackie of Delta. Nephews Michael and wife Kari of Delta, Jon of Kenai Alaska and Chris and wife Joya of Grand Junction. Great nephews Derek Boyd, Tyler Garcia, Mason Garcia all of Delta, Kyzer and Tajge Boyd of Kenai Alaska, and Maverick and Cash Boyd of Grand Junction. Aunt Betty Stringer of Grand Junction and Sister-in-law Virginia and Owen Thomas of Kirtland New Mexico.
Jimmie served 2 terms as Trustee for Orchard City and on the board for the Delta County Fire Protection Dist #3 for 8 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Taylor Funeral Service Delta Chapel, on May 13, 2024 at 10 AM.Monday, May 13, 2024
