James Francis Hout passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at Homelake Veterans Nursing Home in Monte Vista, Colorado, at the age of 81.
Jim was born on February 10, 1944, in Green River, Wyoming, to Elizabeth Louise (Yoggerst) and Homer Karl Hout. He graduated from Green River High School in 1962 and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician Second Class from 1966 to 1970.
He married his first wife, Linda Tarman, with whom he had two sons, Eric and Jason. After their divorce, Jim led a life full of adventure and grit, working as a ranch hand and cowboy, known for breaking and training horses. Eventually, he returned to Green River to care for his father and grandfather. He worked at FMC and TG, the local trona mines, as a laborer, machinist, and welder.
In Green River, Jim met the love of his later life, Joanna Marie Shupe. They were married on White Mountain on September 8, 1992. In 2001, Jim and Joanna moved to Cedaredge/Delta, Colorado, where he continued his mining career with Oxbow Mine.
A devoted husband, Jim lovingly cared for Joanna during her battle with terminal lung cancer from 2011 to 2012. After her passing and his retirement, Jim faced his own challenges with Parkinson’s disease. He moved to Homelake Veterans Nursing Home, where the staff provided him with compassionate care until his passing.
Jim was a man of deep integrity, loyalty, and quiet strength. He was devoted to his family and friends, always showing up when he was needed. His life was filled with hard work, love, and perseverance.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Linda Tarman, his beloved wife Joanna Shupe, and his son Eric Hout. He is survived by his son Jason Hout; his stepchildren Ray (Rebecca) Shupe and Elizabeth (Byron) Droge; his grandchildren Justin, Austin, Nathan, Shae, John Michael, Ashley, and Chris; and his great grandchildren Aurora, Aspen, Atlas, Callen, and Venessa (Nessie)
