James (Jim) Marshall Carner Jr passed away at his home in Grand Junction, Colorado on December 28, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He was 89 years old.
Jim was born to Cornelia Elizabeth (Wachs) Carner and Marshall James Carner, the youngest of seven children in Mishawaka, Indiana on December 2, 1936. Jim graduated from St. Joseph High School in South Bend, Indiana. He continued his education at the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1963.
Jim met his beloved wife, Helen Weber, at the University of Florida and they were married August 31, 1963. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2025.
They moved to Colorado Springs where Jim worked for Hewlett Packard for 30 years. They lived there for 35 years, enjoying family life with three children; Christine, Jay, and Melissa. They moved to Cedaredge where they continued to enjoy their retirement and recently moved to Grand Junction. Jim loved the Colorado lifestyle - he enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and gardening. He will be remembered for his remarkable sense of humor, quick wit and kindness. He took up woodworking while wintering in Arizona for over 20 years where he made many friends and took great pride in being called an honorary Canadian.
Jim is survived by his spouse, Helen; his children Christine (Hugh) Gibbons, Jay (Nickie) Carner, Melissa (Chris) Pipkin; and 8 grandchildren (Zach & Noah Carner, Emily, Eric & Evan Pipkin, Rachel, Meagan & Abby Gibbons), 3 great-grandchildren; numerous loving nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings who we are certain welcomed him home with jubilation, music and laughter fitting of a Carner reunion.
A funeral mass will be held at St Philip Benizi Church in Cedaredge January 23, 2025 at 11 AM. There will be a rosary at 10:30 AM led by the Knights of Columbus.
