Gary Duane Fry

Gary Duane Fry entered Heaven on November 17, 2025—his 69th birthday—at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, after fighting a long hard battle with cancer. He was laid to rest at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta, CO on November 20, 2025.

Gary was born on November 17, 1956, in Artesia, California, to Willa Mae Barger and Andie Joe Fry. He grew up in Lakewood, California, where he lived until age 17 before beginning a season of traveling and adventure.

While in Flagstaff, Arizona, Gary met the love of his life, Susan Kay Kearns (Welton). They married on August 16, 1986, and celebrated 39½ wonderful years together.

In 1995, Gary moved to Delta, Colorado, to build a home for his family. There he opened his custom cabinet shop, pouring his passion for woodworking into every piece he crafted. He was gifted in creating beautiful custom furniture and took great pride in his craft.

When he wasn’t in the shop, Gary loved spending time with his family, working in the yard, or playing the most beautiful music on his guitar. He enjoyed spontaneous road trips, especially those that led to unforgettable memories at Disneyland with his children and grandchildren.

Gary loved Jesus deeply, and it showed in the way he lived. He was kind, generous, and always willing to help—often giving the shirt off his back to someone in need. His gentle spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Gary is survived by his wife, Susan, of Delta; his children Shannon Fry of Paonia, Trisha Workman (Brian) of Colorado Springs, Loren Welton (Megan) of Eckert, Andy Fry (Falicity) of Rifle, and Natalie McKelvey (Eric) of Delta; as well as 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willa Mae and Andie Joe; his sister and brothers; and his son, Brandon Fry.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Crossroads Church in Montrose, Colorado, followed by a lunch reception.
