Fred Leroy Brown JR passed away on August 11,2026 at Hope West Care center. He was 88 years old.
There will be a graveside service in Matfield Green, Kansas. Held on Monday, August 17,2026 at 2:00 pm.
Leroy was born on February 25, 1938, to mother Grace Dunkin and Father Fred Leroy Brown Sr. He grew up in Madison Kansas and graduated from Madison High School.
He met Shirley Jean Underwood, and they were married on June 22, 1958. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together.
Leroy and Shirley made their way to Montrose, Colorado in 1994 to be closer to their daughter and grandkids. He has been a resident of the western slope for 32 years. Leroy and Shirley made a career in owning and operating motels in Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. They took great pride in meeting new people and Leroy never knew a stranger. He told the best stories and provided the best memories. He was liked by everyone and was always willing to help anyone.
Leroy’s greatest past time was spent with his family and grandkids. He loved to travel and visit different parts of the world. One of Leroy’s favorite sayings “We are burning daylight” He loved everything John Wayne and would watch westerns for hours.
Leroy is survived by his daughter Sharon Lake (Bob) of Ridgway, Colorado. His granddaughter Kari Hasler (Brannon) of Montrose, Colorado. His grandson Cody Smith of Arizona and his great-granddaughter Shelby Risher of Texas. His sisters Lorean (Glen) Anliker of Kansas, his sister Joe Williams (Eugene), also many nieces and nephews from Kansas.
Leroy is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Jean Brown, his brother Phil Brown, his mother Grace Dunkin and Father Fred Leroy Brown Sr.
Arrangements are under the care of Taylor Funeral Services and Crematory, and Brown/Bennett/Alexander Funeral Home in Kansas.
