Ed was born June 7, 1948, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to the late Charles Marty and Mary Louise Lundy. He grew up in Hotchkiss and graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1966. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably and was discharged with service-related injuries.
He went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado. Ed dedicated his career to teaching English, History, and Geography, as well as coaching wrestling. He began his teaching career in Walsh, Colorado, and later taught at Bayfield High School until his retirement, when he returned to his hometown of Hotchkiss.
On June 10, 1972, Ed married Tamera Dee (Holder) Marty, and together they raised two children, Erik (Melissa) Marty and Tyann (William) Trevino. He was a proud grandfather to Russell, Cameron, and Korben Trevino, and Evangeline and Henry Marty.
Ed is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings Dennis Marty, Mary Stratton, Tom LeClair, and Margie Oxford. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Anita “Nikky” Boyd Fairless and Rita Boyd Pappan.
A celebration of life will be held in Hotchkiss in the spring of 2026, with details to be announced at a later date.
