Don Francis Huber passed away on August 11th, 2025, at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 78 years old.
Don was born on August 15, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky to Mary Fabian Joyce and Armand Joseph Huber. He was a 1964, graduate of Saint Xavier High School in Louisville and earned his Master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Cincinnati in 1971.
While attending college, Don met his spouse of 28 years, Vivian Ann Newman in 1970. They would subsequently move to Pensacola, Florida after Don accepted a teaching position as an art professor at Pensacola Junior College (now Pensacola State College). He would work at PJC from 1971, until his retirement in 2002. He was beloved by many of his students.
In 2007, Don embarked on a lengthy road trip exploring both the United States and Canada until he ultimately chose to settle down in Paonia, Colorado. He would call Paonia his home for 17 years. Don was a prolific painter, drawer, sculptor, and photographer who left behind a large and varied body of work. Aside from art he enjoyed reading, live music, and carousing with friends all over Paonia. Don was a lively personality who made new friends easily.
Don is survived by his two sons, Neil Huber of Brooklyn, New York and Denis Huber of Paonia, Colorado; his sister-in-law Margaret Huber of Louisville, Kentucky; his nieces Lisa Goodlett of Louisville, Kentucky and Michelle Lomangino of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Don is preceded in death by his mother Faye Huber, his father Armand Huber, his wife Vivian, his brother Denis L. Huber, aunt Margaret Joyce, and uncle John Joyce.
