He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Martin and Margaret Husby. David passed away at his home in Olathe, Colorado from Stage 4 cancer. His wife Martha (Muff) and family never left his side.
David is survived by wife Martha (Muff) and a blended family of three daughters and one son. Jessica Dunbar (Bobby), Candace Archibeque (Eric), Leslie Maddox (Eddie) and Tyler Gravestock (Seneca). Family includes 10 Grandchildren; Brooke (Dru), Cody (McKenna), Brenda (Billy), Rachel (Jackson), Victoria (Devin), Josh, Zachary, Kael, Brock and Charlie.
David was also blessed with four Great Grandchildren; Cyniah, Marley, Alana and Colter.
David has two sisters and three brothers; Peggy, Maja (Paul), Martin, Paul (Margi) and Stuart (Jan). He also has many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
David was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dad Duffy, sister Barbara and a half brother John.
David will be remembered as a genuine person, who loved everyone and had a laugh that would make a room light up. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very dear to his heart, and he had their back no matter what was going on.
He enjoyed playing golf and loved to see people smile when he wore his golf knickers.
David was an avid fisherman that loved to be on the water fishing with anyone that would join him. He enjoyed making tackle boxes for his kids and grandkids. David also enjoyed hunting in the mountains of Colorado with his kids and grandkids.
He never missed a school, sporting or drama event that involved his kids or grandkids if he could keep from it. Spending time with his friends and family was his favorite past time.
Yahtzee games with his mother-in-law Ellen (deceased) and anyone that dared to join them was always a very competitive but good time.
He shared his home with a rescued cat, boxer, elderly labradoodle and most recently a goldendoodle puppy. His pets were a huge part of his life as well.
David loved to travel. Whether it was to Minnesota and Arkansas to see family or golfing in Sun City in the winter with his sisters. He took several motorcycle trips far and wide with Muff. He also got to go to Europe with granddaughter Brooke, daughter Leslie and his wife Muff.
David served active duty in the Army overseas for four years as a water purification specialist and sharpshooter. He finished his military career with two years in the National Guard as a ski and shooting instructor. David earned a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo and his role as a senior instructor was a passion he enjoyed immensely. David and Muff purchased a small cabin in the mountains that they enjoyed for several years until problems with the altitude forced a sale.
David was active in his community. He served on the board of directors at Montrose Elks Lodge, was a mentor and volunteer at Partners and he worked at Cherry Creek, now Townsquare Media, for years. Chances are you heard Dave's voice booming out ads on the radio or purchased a car from him if you were on the Western Slope. David was also quick to point out the many culinary honors he received for his green chili and brisket.
David married the love of his life, Muff, on July 15th, 2000. They shared a wonderful life and many great adventures daily. He is greatly missed and would want everyone to think of him kindly, with warm hearts and a smile.
There is a celebration of life scheduled at Montrose Elks Lodge for Sunday, July 12th at 2 p.m. The family asks that any donations be made to Hope West Hospice or Partners of Montrose.
