David A Dapkus of Cedaredge, Co died peacefully August 31, 2025 at home of heart failure. Dave was born 1/27/1942 in White Salmon, Washington to August and Virginia Dapkus. Dave graduated from Portland State College in 1967. Following a short time with the Army Map Service in Washington, DC, Dave and family moved first to Bainbridge Island, Washington and then to Alaska where he worked for the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. While with BOR he worked with teams that floated many Alaska river systems to assess their recreational value. These trips led to 25 Alaska rivers being selected for the National Wild and Scenic program. He later worked for the Bureau of Land Management, and US Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska, retiring in 1999 as a Park Ranger.
Dave and Jacki moved to Cedaredge in 2003. Built their home and enjoyed years in the “lower 48” travelling, visiting family and friends, pheasant hunting over their dogs
Dave is survived by his wife Jacki, daughter Lisa Dapkus of Wichita, Ks, son Leigh Backus (Alan) of Brunswick, Ga, stepson Neil Warren (Kristin) and granddaughter Ava Warren of Anchorage. Ak
