David Lee Addams (December 27, 1947 – April 25, 2023)

David Lee Addams, 75, passed away with family by his side on April 25, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. Despite battles with health issues the last 15 years, David’s strong-willed, stubborn nature kept him going until the end.

David was born December 27, 1947 in Denver, CO. He grew up in Hotchkiss, CO, with parents, James (Jim) and Elsie (Hartman) Addams. David resided in the North Fork Valley nearly his entire life, living only the last few years in Grand Junction.

Soon after graduating from Hotchkiss High School in 1966, David began working for Delta County Tele-Comm (now TDS Telecom). He spent most of his career in sales which suited his social and outgoing personality; David retired from TDS in 2006 with 38 years of service.

An avid rifle hunter and gun collector, David anxiously awaited every hunting season. He enjoyed taking family members and friends on many hunting excursions in Delta County. David also loved animals; he had horses during his youth which accompanied him on hunting or sightseeing trips and, throughout his life, he always had a dog or two by his side.

While David enjoyed a variety of sports, baseball was his favorite. He loved reminiscing about his playing days as a pitcher, especially helping Hotchkiss High School win the 1964 state baseball championship. When his playing days were over, David remained involved in sports, officiating high school basketball, football, and baseball, and later attending games as a spectator. He also enjoyed attending MLB Spring Training in Arizona, the Junior College (JUCO) Baseball World Series each May in Grand Junction, and many Colorado Rockies games.

In recent years, David stayed connected with close friends and family via phone, as he was unable to get “out and about.” He looked forward to visits from his children, and especially his grandchildren, whom he truly adored.

David is survived by his two daughters, Holly (Christopher) Prickett and Kelly (Christian) Gonzalez; five grandchildren, Makynna, Greyson, and Braylen Prickett, Amelia and Alyssa Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Bill McKee; sister, Merrilee (Charlie) McClaskey; and brother, Lynn (Beth) March. David was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Elsie Addams, and sister, Kathy McKee.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service in Hotchkiss, CO. Graveside services will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s name to Delta County Humane Society, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, or a charity of your choice.
