Darlene F. Johnston passed away on 3/27/2026 at Delta Health Hospital, Delta, CO. She was 94 years old.

Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, May 21st, 2026 at Delta United Methodist Church, 477 Meeker Street, Delta, CO followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.

Darlene was born 12/05/1931 in Sheridan County Kansas to Edith Nora Trueblood and Orin Roy Simon. She grew up on the farm NE of Hoxie, Kansas. Her family moved to the Niwot, Colorado Area where she graduated high school and attended business school.

She met her husband, Tom Johnston and married 12/05/1951. They celebrated 45 years together until he passed 11/07/1996. Her husband was in the Army and they traveled around the United States, Panama and Germany.

Darlene was a homemaker first and after the children were on their own, she worked as a Home Health Aide for 8 years. Following that she worked for Welcome Wagon for several years thoroughly enjoying meeting and welcoming people to the Longmont, CO area.

Darlene moved to Delta, CO in 2009 to be near her children.

Darlene was an active person, raising seven children, facilitating her son with cerebral palsy to independent working adult life, being a leader of the senior group- Merry Mixers at Long Peak UMC, Queen of a Red Hatters group and continued activities with and for seniors.

Darlene is survived by four of her seven children: Edith Johnston of Delta, CO, Brenda Hambree of Knoxville, TN, Glen Johnston of Tonasket, WA, and Pat Johnston of Grand Junction, CO; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Delta United Methodist Church, United Women of Faith, 477 Meeker Street, Delta, CO 81416 or to a charity of your choice.
