Carolyn K. Hawkins of Delta passed away November 15th, 2025. She was 77.
Carolyn was born on February 4, 1948 to William and Anna Weiss. She was raised in Paonia, where she made many special friends that she kept in touch with over the years. Carolyn made even more friends while working at TDS in Paonia and Hotchkiss before she retired. She was also the manager of the Paonia Drive-In for most of the time it was in business.
After the Drive-In closed, Carolyn and her husband, Jack, opened an airpark west of Delta. There, they hosted glider rides and a small concession stand. Carolyn also enjoyed cultivating a very impressive rose garden at the park. When the airpark closed, Carolyn missed the social interaction so much she started an ice-cream truck! She enjoyed taking the truck to various festivals and celebrations, but sometimes she would just drive it around town to bring a frozen treat and a smile to people on a hot day. Deloss and Marla Hancock, who she considered family, would often help her on the ice cream truck – she enjoyed teaching them good work ethics and the benefits of managing their earnings.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Jack Hawkins; mother Anna Weiss; father William Weiss; sisters Dorothy Faries, Luella Mackenroth, and Mary Hartwig; and her brothers Leonard Weiss and Paul Weiss. She is survived by her sister Darlene Nash (Don); nieces and nephews Steven Faries (Lori), Alvin Faries, Noah Mackenroth (Nancy), Sheri Rogers, Jill Norris (Tom), Donald Nash, Jonathan Nash, Stacy Chiles (John), and Matthew Weiss. While Carolyn did not have any natural children, she is also survived by Deloss Hancock, Deloss' fi ancé Keylee Esplin, and Marla Hancock, all of whom she considered family. She was loved and will be missed by many.
In accordance with Carolyn's wishes, there will be no services.
