Alan Gene Brownwood

Alan Gene Brownwood passed away, May 29, 2026 at Montrose Memorial. He was 71 years old. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 8th at 10am at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Montrose, CO.

Alan was born on September 23, 1954 in Loveland, CO to Lucille and Eugene Brownwood. Alan grew up in Loveland and graduated from Loveland High School with a wrestling scholarship to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO where he earned an associate’s degree in business. He went on to complete his bachelor’s degree at Chadron State in Nebraska and UNC in Greeley.

Alan met Paula Jean Stokley at Wood’s Landing in Wyoming and they were married on July 6, 1999. They celebrated 26 years together.

Alan and Paula made their way to Montrose County making Montrose their home. Alan has been a resident of the Western Slope for 10 years. Alan was a dairy farmer, managed the recreation center in Brighton, CO for many years, and drove a city bus in Fort Collins, CO for 15 years. When not working he enjoyed: fishing, reading, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his wife and family. Alan will always be remembered for the twinkling sparkle in his eye when greeting his loved ones.

Alan is survived by his wife Paula Stokley of Montrose, CO; his sons Nicholas Brownwood of Greeley, CO and Levi Brownwood of York, NE; His sisters Mildred Stanek of Rio Rico, AZ; Marilyn Dale of Loveland, CO and 9 grandchildren.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Clinton Brownwood.
