William Andrew "Andy" Henry

February 28, 1959 — October 13, 2020

William Andrew “Andy” Henry, 61, of Delta, Colorado died unexpectedly at his home on October 13, 2020. His loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened, taking solace in the fact that Andy is no longer in pain.

Andy was born on February 28, 1959 to William (Bill) Lenwood and Ida “Louise” (Hinton) Henry in Kremmling, Colorado. He was a proud 5th generation Grand Countian and always considered Grand County home. Andy attended Kremmling Schools K-12 graduating in 1977 and was passionate about sports, hunting and ranching.

Andy and Sue (Suzanne Jolly) were united in marriage on November 22, 1980 at the Kremmling Community Church. He passed just short of their 40th wedding anniversary.

Andy loved the Rodeo since he was a small boy, he rode Bulls and was a Rodeo Clown in the late 1970’s. Additionally, he enjoyed playing fast-pitch baseball, basketball, bowling, horseshoes and cards at the old Pool Hall. He was an avid sportsman from fishing to big game hunting and guided many a hunter in Grand County.

Andy worked in a variety of jobs including logging, construction and trucking along with anything involving the livestock industry. Andy worked for the Colorado Department of Highways for many years plowing snow on Rabbit Ears Pass and then moving to Granby in 1983 operating heavy equipment and plowing snow from Granby to Berthoud Pass and Willow Creek Pass. He then ventured into private businesses including as part owner of the Silt Sale Barn, then moving on to erecting Steel Buildings around Grand County and as the construction supervisor of log homes for F.O. Phoneix, LLC.

Andy was extremely involved in the communities which he lived in holding numerous fundraisers for those in need including Colorado’s first successful heart transplant recipient in the 1980’s. Andy also coached Grand County little league for 12 years winning the majority of years he was involved. In addition, he served on the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo Board, and the Grand County Weed Board. In the 1990’s Andy was elected to the Granby Town Board and was mayor pro-tem and police commissioner. He was very proud of bringing the Town of Granby’s budget under control, leaving a surplus at the end of his term.

Andy and Sue moved to Delta, Colorado in 2000 and purchased Western Colorado Sportsman’s Club, where they raised thousands of pheasants every year for their Hunting Club members. This was one of Andy’s favorite ventures as he could hunt anytime he wanted to. The hunting club was sold in 2007 and Andy returned to his roots of raising cattle and adding Boer goats into the mix. He was a fixture at the Delta Sales Yard hardly ever missing the weekly livestock sale.

Andy seemed to know someone where ever he went and never forgot a name. He had a unique laugh that was recognizable from across a crowded room. Andy was a true original and was never afraid to tell it like it is. Andy worked hard and played even harder.

Andy was instumental in helping establish the Rocky Mountian Elk Foundation in 1984, he was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Delta BPOE Elks #1235 spending many an afternoon playing cards with fellow Elks. He was also an ardent fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.
