    Karen Elizabeth Black

    April 4, 1947 - October 16, 2020

Cedaredge, Colorado resident, Karen E. Black, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving husband. She was 73 years of age. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta. Karen Elizabeth was born to Robert W. and Erma A. (Hofman) Hoeme on April 4, 1947 in Garden City, Kansas. She spent her childhood on a farm near Scott City, Kansas. There she attended a one-room school house until junior high and graduated from Scott Community High School with the Class of 1965. After graduation, Karen furthered her education obtaining her B.S in Education with an emphasis in Home Economics from Kansas State University graduating in 1969. She pursued careers in education and in housing and community development. At the age of 14, Karen met the love of her life James E. ‘Jim” Black. They married on August 10, 1968. They spent 41 years in the Denver metropolitan area and had three children. Karen and Jim have resided in Cedaredge, Colorado the past 9 ½ years. They were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta. Karen had a joyous giving spirit. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling, baking, gardening, sewing, and camping with family and friends. She made friends wherever she went and loved learning about people. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Black of Cedaredge; and two daughters: Courtney Black of Lafayette, Colorado and Kellie Mariea of Littleton, Colorado; a brother, Robert Hoeme of Scott City, Kansas and three grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Erma Hoeme, a brother, Alan Hoeme and her son, Jason Black. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Karen’s memory to the Tiny Treasures Preschool (through Redeemer Lutheran) and the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
