Enlisted in the Navy from 1966 to 1969, serving in the Vietnam War
Married to the love of his life, Lana Kay (Lange) Key for the past 55 years, together, they raised four children, Galen G. Key, Dennis D. Key, Jr, Mindy S. (Key) Sitton, and Dustin D. Key.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney Key, and K.O. & Virginia Britain, son Galen Key, and granddaughter Cheyenne Key.
He is survived by his wife Lana, brother Gale, and sister Julie, his children: Dennis, Jr & wife Sheila, Mindy and husband Allen, and Dustin, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews and their families.
His grandson, Austin Key, grew up in his home and they formed a very special bond, right from the start. From a very young age, Austin was always taking care of his grandpa and later, when Dennis’s health declined further and Lana’s health declined to the point she could no longer care for him, Austin was always there, along with his long-time girlfriend, Jaquari Lord, to provide the additional care he needed. The bond he instantly formed with Austin and Jaquari’s son, Buck (3 years old) was almost as strong as the one he had with Austin. Austin, Jaquari and Buck were an integral source of comfort and joy to him.
It was Dennis’s wish to not hold any type of services in honor of his death.
